9 Months

Pretend this was posted on January 7, mmkay?!

The last month has been full of excitement, fun, vacations and family! Madelyn has experienced so many new things this last month, and I'm pretty sure she's enjoyed every minute of it!

She saw Santa, took her first plane ride, met the rest of her great grandparents, started eating finger foods (aside from bananas and puffs which she tried last month), tried a chocolate snowflake cookie ;), ROLLED OVER (yes, finally!) and started pushing herself backwards with her arms while doing tummy time. This kid hasn't been in a hurry to crawl at all, so the movement thing is exciting. She's just so happy doing whatever, wherever, so I guess she figures the crawling can wait!

She got a ton of new toys for Christmas, so she is enjoying all the new colors and sounds and music and animals. She got several little walker toys and an activity table, so we're practicing standing a lot more now, too. She loves standing, but she's not strong enough to pull herself to standing just yet. Several of her new toys have little books on them with a page that sings or makes noise when you turn it. She LOVES this feature and will sit there turning the page back and forth and back and forth. She also loves to "read" her books and turn the pages on those, too.

At the beginning of December, we started Madie on store bought food because I was just too swamped with school finals and everything else on my plate. It's not like the kid never had store bought food, but I just really enjoyed making her food homemade (it's actually relaxing for me!) and she really liked it, too. She seemed a little bored with the store stuff, so while we were in Ohio, we started giving her some finger foods. She tried green peas, carrots, noodles and some breads while we were there, and she loved all of it! She was really interested in feeding herself, which was fun. Since then, we've been giving her a little of what we're eating if it's soft enough for her gums and two little toofers. We've also decided to go ahead and transition her over to formula. We're still giving her some frozen milk, but so far, she hasn't had any problems with the formula. She hasn't been too interested in her sippy cup, but we're working on it. She will drink if we hold it for her, but she doesn't want to do it for herself!

The girl's hair has been a topic of conversation a lot this month. She is totally out of luck, and will have the thinnest hair ever, I'm sure. Right now it stands on end (just go back and look through my pictures), and it looks like we never comb it. But we do. I've even tried to slick it down with lotion, but after it dries, it's back to crazy hair. Hopefully it will lay flat once it grows in a little thicker. But it's still super cute for now. :)

Madelyn is becoming increasingly more vocal, and she's now making all kinds of sounds like ga, da, ma, ya, nya and ba. She giggles (and smiles) a lot, and she is very ticklish! She continues to be very laid back and a very happy baby. She loves taking a bath, and she loves having her rubber ducky in there with her. She'll just hold the duck's head in her mouth and then go on playing with other toys or splashing in the water - she is pretty funny. Another funny topic of conversation lately has been her crazy arms. The kid acts like she's about to take off flying when she sees us or gets excited. She can bat those arms like no other! I really need to get that on video...

At Madie's 9 month appointment, the doc did a follow up cbc to recheck her platelets because of some petechiae she had a while back (that have since disappeared, thank goodness), and everything came back normal. She had to get one shot, and while she's been really tough with all her previous shots, this one must have hurt. :( Thankfully, Mommy & Daddy were able to make everything better.

At 9 months, our girls stats are:

18.9 pounds - 48th percentile
28.5 inches - 80th percentile
85th percentile for head circumference

Sweet sisters!

We fall more in love with these gorgeous eyes every single day.

Happy 9 months sweet girl. You've made our lives complete.

Her hair cracks me up and it reminds me of Jenny when she was a baby. I know you wouldn't remember - unless you look back at pictures - but your cousin Jennifer's hair did the same thing and look at how thick and beautiful her hair is now! So don't give up! Enjoyed the update!
