Swimming Lessons
We enrolled Madelyn in a local swimming school for her first lessons this summer. While she enjoys playing and splashing in the bath, she kind of went into a daze at swimming lessons. Like her mama, she is a (shy) people watcher. She would much rather sit and watch all the other kids than pay attention to the water or the toys or us! She got a lot better, though, in the last few weeks of lessons. Toward the end of the summer, she would reach her arms out when "swimming" forward, she's was much more tolerant of floating on her back. She also finally started to grasp the whole "close your eyes and mouth" concept when you "jump" in the water.

The Eagles
A few months ago, we heard that The Eagles were coming to town. By the time we found out tickets were on sale, they were sold out. Anthony is an old rock and roll music fanatic, and I'm quickly becoming one. The Eagles, though, are legends. I can remember listening to my Mom's "Hell Freezes Over" cd over and over and over when I was young. We were upset that we couldn't get tickets, but sure enough, things work out in funny ways.
One of Ant's patients was talking to him about her love of old rock and roll and mentioned that she had mistakenly gotten an extra pair of tickets to see who else but The Eagles. She wanted to sell them - for FACE VALUE. Who does that?! We jumped on the opportunity and are so thankful that we crossed paths with such a nice person.
Our seats were not very good, but dude. We saw THE EAGLES. And they were awesome. I kind of have an old man crush on Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt now. ;)
Oh, and it was also funny that we were 2 of the 10 people there under the age of 50. We got a lot of funny looks!

Father's Day
Father's Day 2010 was spent hanging out as a family! We enjoyed a laid back day at swimming lessons, shopping at Ikea, church and take out from Pei Wei. I realized that I hadn't taken any pictures until it was bath time and someone was a little antsy.

15-Month Pictures
We have quite a bit of catching up to do here, so I hope you get your fill of Madelyn pictures. We'll definitely never have a shortage of them!
Since I didn't post pics with her 15 months update (from June to July), here's a reminder of some of the fun things she's been up to...
Learned what "Blue Bell" means (thanks, PawPaw).
And got really upset when I didn't get a second, or third, or fourth...bite.
Sported Mommy's old clothes that she found in the attic. Yes, more than just this one...
Figured out Daddy's hat.
Climbed.
On everything.
Played until I wore myself out.
Hung out with my sister.
Worked on improving efficiency in the milk drinking department.
Figured out how to climb up in and rock in my chair.
Had my first visit to a real pool (other than the swimming lesson pool). I wasn't sure what to think!
Enjoyed my mommy's baked beans. A LOT. Especially the bacon part. Mmmm.
Was a sweetheart, as usual.
Figured out how to get in the pantry and hit the jackpot.
Dede came up to watch me so Mommy & Daddy could go watch the Eagles in concert. Had fun eating cheerios on the couch out of my big girl bowl!
Rocked my new 4th of July shades.
Figured out how to climb up on the stool my PawPaw made for me.
Insisted on feeding myself mashed potatoes. What?
Finally got rid of the hospital hairbrush and got my first big girl hairbrush. My hair is still too fine, though, so it doesn't even work. :)
Worked really hard on my shape sorters. Practice makes perfect, right?
Spent a lot of time talking on Mom's old cell phone. Wait, can't hear you!

All in all, just spent the month having fun and getting cuter and sweeter and more fun every single day!

Friday Night Fun...
And her first kids meal (i.e. Mommy finally gets to eat her own meal again)...

We've gotten into a (bad) habit of eating out a lot more often here lately. Come Friday night, after a long week of work and school, neither one of us feels like cooking. Lucky for us, one of our favorite hamburger joints just opened up a location right down the road. They have really yummy (and not greasy) grilled cheese sandwiches, but they're pretty gigantic. :)

15 Months
Hello 15 months!
Our little sweetie is so full of energy these days. She is ALL over the place. Walking, running, climbing, jumping, falling - I'm surprised she hasn't had many bruises along the way! She is not scared of anything, which scares Mommy a little...
We've noticed a significant improvement in her vocabulary in the past month. She started enunciating the bye part of buh-bye, calls Zoe Zo-Zo or Ze-Zo, started mooing like a cow, says more (sounds like moow - still working on the r's!), Dede, hello (lalo) and says thank you's (dat dee). We're working on please, but for now she also says thank you when she really means please. :) She also just started tickling us back this month. She will stick both arms to touch us and will rotate her wrists while saying "ticka, ticka, ticka." It is pretty hilarious. She also finally signed "more" and "eat" this month. I've been working on some simple signs for months, and, of course, now that she can actually say the words, she signs them.
She also very interested in bowls and spoons now. She'll come in the kitchen and "help" stir her bowls while we're cooking dinner. I started letting her play with the bowls and tupperware while trying to cook dinner because she also became very attached to me this month. She has to be within a few feet of me at all times (if not holding on to both of my legs) or she gets extremely upset. She only did this for a few weeks and is getting better now. I guess it's just one of those phases they go through.
She started swimming lessons and is doing fine in them, and she recently enjoyed her first trip to a real pool (i.e. not the pool at swimming lessons). She likes to share her toys and food, pet and chase Zoe, try to escape out the dog door and get into everything. She loves to try to put on Mommy and Daddy's shoes when we leave them out, and she also loves putting on her own shoes. She loves feeding herself with her fork and spoon and gets upset if we try to feed her. She is a very independent and opinionated little girl, although you wouldn't know it if you just met her. She's still pretty shy around strangers, but once she warms up to someone, there's no escaping her! She also just started giving real kisses (we call them sugars) to us and everything, all. the. time. And we totally love it!
Oh, and I had to buy her first hairbrush and trim about 7 hairs that wouldn't stay out of her eyes this month. Before I know it, she'll be wanting highlights. ;)
At 15 months, Madelyn is such a fun, exciting, funny and sweet little girl. We continue to see how amazingly blessed we are each and every month.
At her 15-month checkup, we had to check her platelets again because of a pretty bad flare up of those darn petechiae, but her levels are normal, thank goodness. Her stats are pretty consistent with what they've been all along:
Weight: 22 pounds, 4 ounces (46 percentile)
Height: 31 1/2 inches (75 percentile)
Head: 47 cm (77 percentile)
I'll try to post pics soon.
